Over the last 10+ years, 2G Robotics has made a significant impact across the ocean sector by commercializing the first subsea laser scanner and deploying products across the globe on wide ranging subsea projects. We have laser scanned and imaged tens of thousands of kilometers of pipelines, surveyed wide areas of seabed, and modelled countless subsea assets and shipwrecks. We are extremely proud of what we have accomplished so far, but there is so much more we want to do. As we embark on the next phase of this journey, we feel that we have evolved from our identity as a small start-up to that of a mature and enduring organization.
Our team has been planning a rebrand for some time now as we look to redefine ourselves with a brand that better represents our mission, our values, and our passion. The last eighteen months have been filled with significant change, including our joining Sonardyne Group, and this time has provided us the perfect opportunity to showcase who we really are.
The first step was to involve our team – and we certainly received some interesting input! We wanted a brand that represents the passionate team behind our products, those that are pushing the limits of technology and love what they do. After a period of reflection, we all decided that a fresh look was not enough; we wanted a new name to bring us into this next stage.
The team is excited to reintroduce ourselves to you as Voyis.
Our name is inspired by the essence of what we do in this industry. Voyis stems from the word voyage and symbolizes a voyage into the darkness. After all, the ocean is truly a last frontier of discovery, embodied every time an underwater vehicle plunges below the water’s surface – the point at which our understanding ends, and the perception of our sensors begin to Illuminate the Unknown.
But our new brand is more than just the name. It will evoke connotations of exploration and discovery, using our incredible data to excite and inspire others to explore for themselves. We wanted a more human brand, showcasing the team behind our products that really make us who we are. We have a fun-loving culture made up of many people who perused jobs in the subsea industry driven by their passion for the underwater world, and we want the brand to reflect their enthusiasm. Our success has always been built on our people and this will endure for years to come.
So what’s in store for Voyis? It’s a truly exciting time in the ocean sector with the combination of emerging technology and a global pandemic driving rapid change. There is a huge advent of autonomous systems, and a focus on remote operation, data automation, and smaller low-cost platforms. This will enable more efficient and low-cost subsea operations that will open the door to more people exploring the depths. But with this vision comes immense challenges. Historically surveyors could easily integrate all the equipment needed to achieve their survey goals, but in this new paradigm, they are targeting much more complex goals which they cannot achieve alone. True autonomy can only be achieved when the sensors instantaneously provide the information and analysis required for unsupervised decision making.
Our customers must be at the forefront of their respective fields of survey operations and vehicle design and do not have the resources to also invest in complex sensor integrations. More than ever, it is up to sensor providers to innovate and deliver the synergies that add this new capability. We believe it will be the sensors themselves that enable true autonomy.– Chris Gilson, CEO Voyis
To this end we will redouble our approach of working as partners with our customers to achieve their visions, whether that be the customization of our design or software to optimize integration into their platform, or our engineers working with theirs to solve system-level challenges; our success is measured by that of our customers. We will expand our Recon AUV payloads and Perception ROV skids into application-specific solutions, leveraging low-level synergies within the Sonardyne Group to deliver complete solutions like onboard deep learning, optical navigational aiding, and real-time data enhancement. The goal is plug-and-play sensor payloads that add advanced capability and enable autonomy with simplified integrations and interfaces.
We are more focused than ever on our mission: to push the limits of what’s possible subsea, and Illuminate the Unknown. We hope you’ll join us on this next phase of our journey.
