Voyis is proud to be a part of the Covelya group, alongside other admirable companies. Covelya Group companies operate in various sectors within the energy, science, defence and commercial markets. They develop, manufacture, sell and support instruments, systems, and solutions worldwide.

Today we are happy to introduce you to Chelsea Technologies and discuss how our technologies can work together.

Who is Chelsea?

Chelsea Technologies designs, develops, and manufactures a world-class range of underwater environmental sensors and systems in the UK. They are fully equipped to provide factory servicing and re-calibration, dedicated product support, and opportunities to work with their distinguished research and development team on bespoke projects.

Chelsea prides itself on its deep engineering expertise, ingeniously applied to create the world’s most sensitive, accurate and reliable environmental monitoring sensors and systems. For over 50 years, their fluorometers, sensors & systems have been used around the world to help customers understand the natural environment, improve water treatment processes, comply with ballast water, and exhaust gas wash water monitoring regulations, monitor for pollution and contaminants in rivers and lakes, and support oceanographic research.

Voyis for Ocean Sciences

Voyis’ powerful underwater lasers and cameras help users efficiently perform surveys and gather accurate records of a subject in its current state and location, from environmental monitoring to shipwreck scanning. Additionally, our technology can be easily integrated with most ROVs (Remotely Operate Vehicles) and AUVs (Autonomous Underwater Vehicles) for optimal results.

Users can conduct dynamic optical surveys of large ocean regions using the Voyis Insight laser scanner, Observer stills imaging system, and Nova LED panel on subsea vehicles. High-resolution laser point clouds provided true-scale geolocated 3D models for a highly detailed digital record of these marine habitats, like the example below from Voyis’ project with Ulster University at Empire Heritage & Hempton Marine habitat. As can be seen, the results allow the customer to assess the current state of the marine habitat while providing a baseline to compare with future surveys. This is particularly valuable for monitoring marine protected environments (MPAs).

Voyis and Chelsea: A complete environmental monitoring solution

Combining Voyis and Chelsea technologies can offer a complete environmental and marine habitat monitoring solution.

In order to gain a more complete understanding of the ocean’s health in these regions, this high-resolution optical data can be augmented with Chelsea Technologies’ environmental sensors to enable correlations between the visual and scientific indicators. These measurements can be added directly into image meta-data for simple automated reporting.

Chelsea Technologies’ range of sensors and systems are used in various ocean science applications, including algal health monitoring, oil spill detection, sewage contamination monitoring, primary productivity assessment & climate change studies. These high precision sensors are robust and easily integrated into oceanographic platforms such as ROVs, AUVs, Ferryboxes and moorings.

Their range of algal sensors is being used to detect and quantify chlorophyll a, phycocyanin and phycoerythrin. Lightweight and compact, the TriLux & UniLux are perfect tools for oceanographic surveys, dye tracing studies, continuous monitoring, and algal class differentiation. The STAF range of active fluorometers uses state of the art fluorescence technology and techniques to assess and quantify photosynthesis in phytoplankton and algae and is used to estimate gross primary productivity.
